is a operational vintage ham
radio transceiver,
TenTec Argosy
2D ( digital display ) model 525,
HF
Transceiver with matching TenTec PSU, which
provides a stable out-put voltage of
13.8VDC.
The rig
has the capability of 0 to 5 watts adjustable, and 0
to 50 watts adjustable, via drive
control, the switching
is via Hi - Lo switch on rear
panel.
Despite
its age, the rig is reliable. It features legendary
TenTec QSK, good audio filtering, a
built-in SWR bridge,
stable PTO ( permeability tuned
oscillator ) no reports
of " chirp " and,
automatic RF power shut-down.
The red
digital frequency display is easy on the eye!
Filtering : There are three push button
switches
located on the lower right side of
front panel
1) The Xtal position In -Out, No optional
filter
installed in this rig, therefore push
button switch
is inoperative.
2) AF -
In/Out, 1 / 2 switches are Operative,
as Audio CW accessory filter
module 224 is
installed.
3) The
1 / 2 switch selects either the narrow
or wide bandwidth response,
respectively.
The
band and mode switches are not original,
but function OK.
The rig
performs equally well on CW or SSB.
Generally
speaking I much prefer CW mode, however
I do
enjoy an occasional rag chew on SSB, usually
on sunday
mornings on the European old timers
net and to this end, the Kenwood
microphone works
quite well, with satisfactory audio
reports obtained.
The rig
will operate at full power, however I much
prefer to keep the Drive down to
about 30/35 watts.
I find
this level sufficient for DX work on CW.
The
PSU, not a lot I can say about this unit, except
to say it works OK. The general
condition is good,but some
surface scratches on the casing and the front lower
casing corner is very slightly bent
inwards, very
minor and is only just visible. This
unit weighs 3 Kgs.
Manual
included ( pdf download )
and Kenwood
microphone. All equipment etc will be
very well
packed. Regret, no original TenTec box.
